LATIS (WINTER)
Print portfolio
Edition of 100

Latis (winter) is the first installment of a seasonal portfolio series, printed by 222 Press and organized as an homage to the Rubber Stamp Portfolio (1977) produced by Parasol Press and distributed by MoMA. The original portfolio was released in 13 sequential months in editions of 1000. Parasol and MoMA began with the stamping concept but then as the project progressed and the roster grew they allowed the artists to bend the rules and included collotypes for Agnes Martin and Chuck Close.
This initial winter offering is comprised of four prints by artists Léonie Guyer, Wayne Smith, Penelope Anstruther, and Laura Figa. The definition of rubber stamp was left up to interpretation, but they all carry the common thread of relief reproduction. The simplicity of the act of stamping, and the implied repetition brought all four of the artists to unexpected corners of their practices.
The immediacy and simplicity of the stamp leaves no room for smoke and mirrors. There’s a bluntness thats inescapable but there’s also a delicacy and deliberateness of thought in all of their approaches that made a beautifully balanced set of prints.
The portfolio is available through 222 Press here.
